Quilts Made By Wambui

Here, I’m proud to showcase three special quilts I’ve made: Singing Solo, Crazy Quilt, and My Mama Quilt. Each one has its own story, full of memories and creativity. Click on any photo to begin a carousel showcasing the quilts, where you can learn more about the inspiration and process behind each design.

Quilts are more than just fabric and thread—they are pieces of art that bring warmth, comfort, and history into our lives. Whether hanging on a wall or draping over a bed, quilts uniquely blend tradition and personal expression. I hope you enjoy exploring these works of love as much as I enjoyed creating them.

Wambui Made It:'Singing Solo' quilt (front) -- If you have ever had to face the music alone. -- This quilt is a decorative wall quilt. I made this quilt in 2012. This quilt began as a hand drawing of a nightclub singer. I then traced that drawing and cut it into pieces like a puzzle. I then used the paper pieces as guides to cut various cotton fabrics into the shapes of the head, the dress, the microphone, etc. I pieced those fabrics together to form the picture - out of fabric. I then sewed the fabric pieces together on the orange gradient fabric.Wambui Made It:'Singing Solo' quilt (front) -- If you have ever had to face the music alone. -- This quilt is a decorative wall quilt. Crazy Quilt
This colorful quilt hangs proudly on the wall in my oldest daughter's home, and I had a great time putting it together! The process was both simple and creative. I started by cutting enough pieces to create matching shapes for the centers of each block. Once the center shapes were ready, I let my creativity flow by piecing fabric around each center. I used a variety of fabrics I had on hand, adding strips and shapes until all the blocks reached a specific size. The beauty of this quilt lies in its "crazy" and random patterns, which come together in such a lively, vibrant way!Crazy Quilt This colorful quilt hangs proudly on the wall in my oldest daughter's home, and I had a great time putting it together!
